Reviews:
“If you like your horse operas bloody, if you
thought The Searchers was fine, except for all the missing
vampires and werewolves and monsters, then … Tim Seeley, Aaron Campbell, and
Jim Terry have a book here for you. Come walk with them through the Old West,
and don’t trust them when they tell you it’s all going to be fine. It’s not.
And we wouldn’t have it any other way.” —
Stephen Graham Jones (New York Times bestselling
author of The Only Good Indians, My Heart is a Chainsaw)
“…a tawdry monster mash that’s bloody entertaining” – Publishers Weekly (Starred
Review)
“Vigorous, bloody pulp fiction boned with fierce intelligence and blooded
with delicate observation. This just might be the start of the best monster
universe since Universal’s.” — Daniel Kraus (New York
Times bestselling author of The Shape of Water, Trollhunters,
and The Autumnal)
“Western gets weird in this gore-strewn, rollicking adventure set in the 1870s
…with a wink toward gothic Victorian horror.” – Publishers Weekly (Starred Review)
Why Should You Read This?
“West of Sundown Vol. 1: Out Beyond the Dust N’ Dark” is a fantastic graphic novel that will captivate readers from start to finish. The story follows Constance Der Abend, a beautiful vampire who must flee monster slayers in New York City and reclaim the ancestral soil that restores her undead flesh. With her loyal assistant Dooley by her side, she sets out for the rough frontier town of Sangre De Moro, where all sorts of monsters have settled.
The art and illustrations in this book are simply stunning. The characters are beautifully rendered, with each panel bursting with detail and depth. The artwork perfectly captures the gritty, western setting of the story, and readers will find themselves fully immersed in this dark and dangerous world.
Despite the serious and often violent subject matter, “West of Sundown” also features a healthy dose of wit and humor. The banter between Constance and Dooley is particularly enjoyable, and readers will find themselves laughing out loud at their witty quips and humorous exchanges.
“West of Sundown” is a must-read for fans of graphic novels and horror fiction alike. The story is engrossing, the art is gorgeous, and the characters are both relatable and entertaining. I can’t wait for Vol 2 to see where Constance’s journey takes her next. Highly recommended!
