ALLENTOWN, NJ (MONMOUTH)–The Allentown Lions Club, Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service was held today. The parade started at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Allen Drive and Main Street in the Borough, turned left up High Street, and ended at the lower Newell Elementary School Parking lot near the War Memorial. Grand Marshal La Piazza Ristorante owner and chef Nino LoPresti led the Historic Village’s 80th Memorial Day Parade.
Lions Parade Committee Chairman, Robert H. Schmitt, Jr. said, “I speak for the Committee members and the entire club, when I say that our friend, Nino, is the very embodiment of the Lions Motto “We Serve,”” Schmitt said. “An immigrant to these shores from Carini, Sicily, Mr. LoPresti, along with his loving wife, Marianna, and dedicated family, fought adversity and their American dream right here in small town Allentown, NJ. More than that, however, Nino and his family have continually shared the good dividends of that dream achieved with the youth, the charitable, organizations, and citizens of Allentown, Upper Freehold, Robbinsville, Millstone, and beyond. We are extremely proud to honor Nino LoPresti as 2024 Parade Grand Marshal.”

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (MERCER)–Robbinsville Fire Department reported that firefighters were dispatched to Patricia Lane at 6:54 a.m. on July 18, 2024, for a resident reporting smoke in their home. After dispatch, additional information was provided reporting an active structure fire at the address. When firefighters arrived at the location, they reported visible fire from the rear of the home extending to the attic area. The residents had self-evacuated upon arrival and were uninjured. An “all hands” was called for sending additional firefighters and equipment, including tankers due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, from Hamilton Township, West Windsor, Plainsboro, Monroe, and Upper Freehold. Fire crews advanced two, inch and 3/4″ handlines into the burning home quickly knocking the fire down and conducted overhaul to prevent further extension. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The Robbinsville Township Fire Marshal is actively investigating the cause of the fire, which was not suspicious in nature.
The “Dr. Robert H. Harris and Mary Ellen Harris Gymnasium” is Among the Latest Project to Support the School
November 22, 2024
LINCROFT, NJ (MONMOUTH) – By all accounts, the gymnasium at the Oak Hill Academy had humble beginnings when the private school first opened in church classrooms in 1981. The “gym” could best be described as a basketball backboard hammered to the side of a building, serving 50 seventh and eighth graders in that inaugural class.
Fast forward 43 years, and the transformation is startling.
The academy, serving grades pre K-8, is now housed on a 20-acre campus on Middletown-Lincroft Road, just down the road from the church. And the “Dr. Robert H. Harris and Mary Ellen Harris Gymnasium” is now the envy of any visiting basketball team. It has become the ideal place for Oak Hill Academy to accommodate gym classes, afterschool clubs, sports, graduations and any other special events.
The updated gymnasium – with its new restrooms, ventilation, LED lighting, brightly-colored paint and banners – were all part of the latest donation from Mary Ellen Harris, who co-founded the Golden Dome Foundation with her late husband, Robert. Dr. Robert and Mary Ellen Harris have been contributing to the steady expansion of Oak Hill Academy since the 1990s.
As soon as Mary Ellen Harris heard of plans to improve the gym building, she was there with support from the Golden Dome Foundation, which includes trustees Judith Lolli, Col. Charles Grinnell, and Paul Petigrow, Esq.
On a recent Tuesday, students gathered on the professional-grade basketball court to express appreciation to the foundation for its ongoing support. There was also special recognition of Dr. Michael Cosulich, an Oak Hill graduate and dermatologist in nearby Wall, whose family funded the new athletic flooring in the upgraded gym.
For the Harris family, there is a strong and lasting connection to Oak Hill Academy. All four children of Robert and Mary Ellen Harris, as well as their 13 grandchildren, have attended the private, non-profit school beginning in 1988.
“The support of Dr. Robert H. Harris and Mrs. Mary Ellen Harris through their Golden Dome Foundation has made a significant impact on the growth of Oak Hill Academy,” said Joseph A. Pacelli, Head of School, who has been at Oak Hill Academy since its founding.
“They have supported Oak Hill’s vision through their dedication and generosity and have thereby made a difference in the lives of many past, present and future Oak Hill students,” he said. “It is an honor to recognize their most recent contribution and name Oak Hill’s gymnasium after Dr. and Mrs. Robert Harris. We value the guidance and support that the great Dr. Robert Harris had towards Oak Hill, and we feel fortunate to continue his legacy.”
To date, the couple has donated at least $2.072 million to the school, according to records reaching back to 2008.
Some examples of the Golden Dome Foundation’s giving to Oak Hill Academy: Support for a pool building in 1995, the “Harris Science Plex” in 2010, (featuring the Soler Science Center, Boardwalk, and outdoor facilities), outdoor basketball and tennis courts in 2016, an upgraded security system in 2018 and then health and safety upgrades related to COVID-19, including enhanced technology.
Most recently, earlier this year, the foundation donated $25,000 for new science equipment and technology.
In recognition of all this giving, and other supports, Oak Hill’s Lower School building was named the “Dr. Robert H. Harris Lower School Learning Center” in January of 2021.
“Oak Hill Academy is very close to my heart,” Harris said. “I’ve had wonderful memories there, and it is a pleasure to see yet another generation of smiling students in those same hallways. It has been an honor and a privilege to support what will always feel like my neighborhood school.”

New 86,000-square-foot medical building to expand convenient access to outpatient services for adults and children in Ocean County
February 11, 2022
TOMS RIVER, NJ (OCEAN)–Executives from Community Medical Center, Children’s Specialized Hospital, and RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group, together with local officials gathered on February 9th to celebrate the groundbreaking for a new 86,000-square-foot medical hub located at 171 Saint Catherine Boulevard in Toms River, N.J. Once complete, the three-story medical building will be shared by Community Medical Center and Children’s Specialized Hospital, both RWJBarnabas Health facilities, with an anticipated opening slated for early 2023.
Designed to serve as Community Medical Center’s hub for patients in western Toms River, their space in the new medical office building will encompass 37,594 square feet offering a range of outpatient services including imaging, ambulatory surgery, pre-admission testing, and physical and occupational therapy. RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group’s primary care and orthopedic physicians will also have offices onsite.
“Our new medical hub will serve as a premier healthcare destination for Toms River and the surrounding areas, enabling us to transform how we deliver care by bringing a range of services directly to the community,” said Patrick Ahearn, Chief Executive Officer, Community Medical Center. “We are excited to break ground on this project and look forward to its completion so we can continue to provide our patients with improved access to the world-class care they have come to expect.”
Further expanding and enhancing access to specialized outpatient services for children, Children’s Specialized Hospital (CSH) will bring the services currently offered in its Lakehurst Road and Stevens Road offices into the remaining 48,406 square feet of the new building – providing their care in one convenient location. These services include developmental and behavioral pediatrics, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry and psychology, and occupational, physical, and speech therapy.
“Children’s Specialized Hospital has a longstanding commitment to children and youth with special healthcare needs,” said Matthew B. As part of this effort, Todd Frazier, MLB All-Star and Olympian, and his wife, Jackie, have signed on as honorary co-chairs of this Transforming Lives 2.0 campaign that has secured over $34 million to date.
“We are so excited to see this new facility brought to our community to uplift Toms River and hopefully change a lot of children’s lives,” said Todd and Jackie Frazier. “It was really a simple decision for us to support this campaign – an easy home run as we say in baseball. We can’t wait to see all the children whose lives will be impacted in such positive ways and hope we can put a smile on some of their faces.”
