WEST WINDSOR TWP (MERCER)– There was a huge turnout for a parade held for Mercer County Fire Marshal James “Jimmy” Greschak, and his three-year-old granddaughter, Friday evening.

The drive-by parade began at about 7:00 pm in support of Greschak, who was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in January, combined with a birthday drive by for his granddaughter, Abigail’s, third birthday. Multiple pieces of apparatus and other emergency vehicles from every fire company in the county, and even some other counties, showed up to show their support.

Many know Greschak as the Mercer County Fire Marshal, or through the County Fire Chiefs Association, County Firemen’s Relief Association, and County Fire Officials. He is also a 50 year member of the West Windsor Fire Company. Others may know Greschak as a Eucharistic Minister at St. David’s, a Knight of Columbus, a Ski Club member, and from other activities.

Greschak’s family expressed their gratitude for the parade, saying, “Drive By Support My father Jim Greschak, was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in January. We have been touched by the amount of his friends that have reached out or tried to reach out to connect with dad and wish him well. I would like to thank Chief Kevin Applegate and the West Windsor Fire Co. for their support in this drive by and through this ordeal.”

Message from West Windsor Fire Company:

A heartfelt thank you to all the Mercer County First Responders that showed up today in support of Jimmy Greschak and his family! Your support was uplifting to them during this difficult time. It was an honor to return some of the kindness that Jimmy has shown all of us throughout his career in the fire service. Thank you for brightening their day.

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Late last night a family was subjected to a horrific shooting that left three of them injured, including one of their children.

When I went to the hospital to visit the victims, I was grateful that no one lost their life. It’s unthinkable for children to endure such reckless, pointless violence at their age, especially in front of loved ones where they should feel the safest. The family was returning from a birthday party for a relative.

This gun violence needs to end and it’s unfortunate that it’s becoming a daily occurrence in cities across this nation. I am asking Director Coley to place every available resource on the streets to prevent a further escalation of violence this summer.

Fortunately, improved police intelligence work can now be conducted at the Real Time Crime Center, which enables better collaboration among the local, county and state law enforcement community. Crime prevention will occur in the long run as we more readily resolve such criminal acts and apprehend these violent offenders before they can strike again.

Our officers are working around the clock to find the suspect. But we are asking for the public’s help to lessen violence in our city. Only with the community working together can we prevent what occurred last night. Please call the anonymous TPD tip line at 609-989-DRUG if you have any information. Those tips have a tremendous impact and have already led to TPD seizing several guns and distribution quantities of narcotics before they hurt more Trentonians.
