TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating a shooting homicide in the city, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.
At approximately 6:56 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2023, Trenton police responded to a ShotSpotter notification reporting multiple shots fired in the area of Lamberton and Federal streets. Upon arrival, officers located a male gunshot victim in the driver’s seat of his parked gray 2010 Infiniti G37. The vehicle and the victim, later identified as Jhosse Tolentino, 23, of Trenton, were each struck multiple times. Tolentino was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Update from the NJ State Police:
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Tpr. II Charles Marchan from the New Jersey State Police Public Information Unit told MidJersey.news that Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash at 5:19 a.m. on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound on the inner roadway milepost 58.8, Hamilton Twp., Mercer County.
Based on a preliminary investigation a Honda passenger car was traveling north on the New Jersey Turnpike in the center lane. A Ford transit van was traveling north in the right lane. In the area of milepost 58.8, the Honda changed lanes from the center lane to the right lane and a collision occurred. As a result of the crash the driver of the Honda, Abdenour Rekik, a 41-year-old of Philadelphia, PA sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Ford sustained no injuries. The crash remains under investigation and there is no additional information available.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–NJ State Police, Firefighters from Robbinsville and Bordentown Townships as well as EMS responded to mile post 58.8 north bound for a serious crash around 5:41 a.m. It was reported that one person was trapped and unresponsive. The New Jersey State Police is actively investigating the crash. No further details are available at this time.

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Trenton Firefighters were alerted about 7:55 p.m. Easter Sunday (April 10) after multiple 911 calls were received reporting heavy smoke coming from the building at 650 South Clinton Ave. Engines 3, 7, 10, 1, Ladders 2 and 4, and Rescue 1 responded. After making entry initial reports from attack crews were for rubbish burning on the second floor. The fire was quickly extinguished.

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (MERCER)—This morning the Robbinsville Township Council has issued a statement regarding an investigation of BAPS.
The full statement is below:
Members of Township Council are profoundly disturbed by the recent findings at dwellings on North Main Street and Voelbel Road. The conditions found within those buildings, the number of occupants residing there, along with the myriad of Fire Code and Uniform Construction Code violations are obviously unacceptable. The safety and well-being of all residents and visitors to Robbinsville Township is paramount, and we will continue to do everything within our power to hold the person(s) responsible for these violations accountable. As Mayor Dave Fried stated previously in media interviews, all the houses known to be boarding dozens of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha volunteers have been shut down with some deemed uninhabitable until all required repairs are completed, and inspections conducted. All Code violations found will be pursued in Municipal Court. Robbinsville Township Administration and the Police Department have referred the case to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. While outside agencies are investigating, including the FBI, we ask for your patience as they carefully and methodically review the case. While we understand people want to know all the details as soon as issues occur, that is not always possible because those pieces of information could very well disrupt and even derail an investigation. There is a team of people working hard every day to keep everyone safe. Please keep in mind Robbinsville officials, with the help of residents, initiated these raids.

EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Two new state-of-the-art advanced technology computed tomography (CT) scanners that provide 3-D imaging have been installed at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint at Trenton-Mercer Airport, providing critical explosives detection capabilities for screening carry-on items.
“TSA remains committed to getting the best technology to enhance security and improve the screening experience,” said Thomas Carter, TSA’s Federal Security Director for New Jersey, shortly before TSA officers cut a bright blue ribbon to commemorate the addition of the new units at the airport. “Our officers’ use of CT technology substantially improves our threat detection capability at the checkpoint. Previously, our screening technology for carry-on bags used 2-D images. The CT technology applies advanced algorithms for the detection of explosives, including liquid explosives and other threat items.”

The system applies sophisticated algorithms for the detection of explosives by creating a 3-D image that can be viewed and rotated 360 degrees on three axes for thorough visual image analysis by a transportation security officer. This new technology creates such a clear image of a bag’s contents that the system can automatically detect explosives, including liquids, by shooting hundreds of images with an X-ray camera spinning around the conveyor belt to provide TSA officers with the three-dimensional views of the contents of a carry-on bag.
It takes a few extra seconds for the TSA officer to view the image and rotate it to get a better understanding of its contents, however in most instances, rotating the image allows the TSA officer to identify an item inside the bag and clear it without a need to open it for inspection. Checkpoint CT technology should result in fewer bag checks. However, if a bag requires further screening, a transportation security officer will inspect it to ensure that a threat item is not contained inside.

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office reported that an adult male was shot multiple times at the corner of Federal and Lamberton streets last night. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
