SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–Around 8:00 p.m. all South Brunswick Fire Departments were dispatched to 5 Stults Road for a fire in a warehouse at Sonoco Products Company. There were reports that employees were trying to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful. When firefighters arrived there were reports of pallets on fire and the sprinkler system was holding the fire and employees were trying to move pallets to get the seat of the fire. Firefighters charged the FDC and also advanced two lines to knock down any fire. There was extensive overhaul involved in the fire. Edison Fire Department responded with large fans to blow the smoke out the building. Firefighters were still on scene at time of this report.

At 8 PM on Friday August 27th, the Monmouth Junction Fire Department was dispatched to the Sonoco Corp. at 5 Stults Road off Route 130 in the Dayton section of the Township for a fire alarm activation. Shortly after receiving the call from the alarm company reporting the fire alarm, employees from the business called 9-1-1 and reported an active fire in the warehouse. Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith and Deputy Chief Sean Wert arrived to find a heavy smoke condition inside the building. Firefighters stretched hoselines inside and located palletized goods on fire, which was quickly contained. A total of 10 fire trucks and over 50 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire, including firefighters from Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park, Kingston, Jamesburg, Plainsboro, North Brunswick Co. #2, Monroe Fire District #3, and Hightstown. Several large trailer-mounted fans from the Edison Fire Department were used to help ventilate the smoke condition created by burning plastic and cardboard. Firefighters from Brookview, East Brunswick District #1, Griggstown, and Montgomery Fire Co. #2 covered South Brunswick fire stations during the incident. Ambulances from South Brunswick, North Brunswick and Monroe responded to the fire. One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat stress and transported to Princeton hospital as a precaution. “Fortunately, the sprinkler system contained the fire to several palletized stacks of goods in the warehouse , according to Chief Smith. It was a humid evening, so we had to rotate our firefighters frequently as they moved goods in the heavily packed warehouse in order to reach the seat of the fire to complete extinguishment. We even had firefighters operating fork-lifts to move unburned product.”
The fire is under investigation by the South Brunswick Township Fire Safety Bureau. Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at the same facility back in February of this year.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–Around noon the Lawrence Township Fire Department was sent to I-295 North Bound at 68.8 mile marker for a pickup truck fire. The pickup truck was carrying extra fuel at the time and was fully involved when firefighters arrived. Once the fire was extinguished the highway was reopened. No other information is available at this time.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–A tractor trailer overturned and crashed this morning on the New Jersey Turnpike at 6:17 a.m. at interchange 8A as earlier reported by MidJersey.News A Freightliner tractor trailer carrying a hazardous material overturned on the ramp. Middlesex County Hazmat was requested and responded to the scene.
Since that time Middlesex County Firefighters Association/IAFF Local 3451 announced a line-of-duty death of one if its members on the Hazardous Materials Team. The statement reads below:
It is with deepest regret and sorrow that the Middlesex County Hazmat Unit reports the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Donald J. Trout earlier this morning while responding to a call for service. Lieutenant Trout was with the Unit since 2002 and previously served as the Supervisor for “A” Shift. Recently, Lieutenant Trout was named as the Unit’s Training Officer. Lieutenant Trout was a member of IAFF Local 3451- Middlesex County Firefighter’s Association. He held several positions within the Local including a term as President. Information regarding the arrangements will be forwarded as it becomes available.
UPDATE: Person is still alive but in very critical condition.
7:30 p.m. Update: The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 11 a.m. this morning in the first block of Kirkbride Avenue in Trenton. The victim, a 21-year-old Trenton male, was shot multiple times and arrived at Capital Health Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. The victim remains in critical condition at this time. TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Trenton Police say that two different shootings occurred today leaving one in critical condition and the other in stable condition at the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
The first shooting occurred sometime around 11:00 a.m. in the area of Kirkbride Avenue, onto Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and continued down East Paul Avenue. Bullet casings could be seen strewn about the area. Trenton EMS and Capital Health Paramedics responded to the scene but it appears that the patient was transported to the nearby Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Also, nearby Phillips Avenue between Brunswick Avenue and New York Avenue was closed by police and marked with crime scene tape. A car parked on Phillips Avenue closer to the NY Avenue side appeared to have a passenger window shot out of the vehicle.
Sometime around 1:50 p.m. another shooting occurred near the intersection of St. Joes Avenue and Girard Avenue one person was transported by Trenton EMS and Capital Health Paramedics to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Trenton Police and the Shooting Response Team was also at that scene investigating. Bullet casings could be seen at the intersection.
Trenton Police report that both shootings are currently under investigation and no other details are available at this time.
A rather large crime scene was set up on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in the areas of East Paul Avenue, West Paul Avenue, Kirkbride Aveneue, and North Willow Street. Bullet casings lined the streets. The Shooting Response Team is investigating.
Phillips Avenue between Brunswick Avenue and New York Avenue was closed with crime scene tape. A vehicle with what appeared to be a window shot out is parked on Phillips Avenue towards the New York Avenue Side.
The shooting scene at Girard Avenue and Saint Joes Avenue where a man was shot and treated by TEMS and Capital Health Paramedics and transported to the Trauma Center. Trenton Police Shooting Response Team was on scene investigating the shooting. Bullet casings can be seen strewn along the street where the shooting occurred.
Trenton Police have the entrance to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center taped off with crime scene tape after two shooting victims were transported to the hospital for treatment. At this hour one is in critical condition and one in stable condition according to Trenton Police.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ (MIDDLESEX)—New Jersey State Police, Sgt. Philip Curry told MidJersey.News that a tractor trailer crash occurred at 6:17 a.m. on the NJ Turnpike at Interchange 8A in Monroe Township.
A Freightliner tractor trailer carrying a hazardous material overturned on the ramp. Middlesex County Hazmat was requested and responded to the scene. The northbound outer roadway is closed and traffic is being diverted onto the inner roadway.
No other information about the crash is available at this time.

LAKEWOOD, NJ (OCEAN)–There were two separate accidents early this morning in Lakewood. The first accident was before 1:00 a.m. where two vehicles collided at the intersection of Circle Place and Central Avenue. One person was transported to the hospital and a fire hydrant was damaged.

In a second accident around 3:00 a.m. one person injured after vehicle overturns after crashing into a pole. The vehicle struck a pole and a tree causing his vehicle to overturn at the intersection of Carey Street & Madison Avenue in Lakewood. First Aid, Fire Volunteers & Chaveirim members heard a loud bang and went to the street to investigate. Upon arrival they found an overturned vehicle with one subject trapped inside. The first aid unit immediately called for additional units and extrication while the volunteers attempted to remove the patient. The First Aid, Fire & Chaveirim volunteers managed to remove the patient and he was transported by Hatzolah to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with Paramedics on board. JCP&L was requested to the scene to repair a pole which was damaged in the accident.
