2:45 pm update: The victim of this morning’s homicide on Daymond Street has been identified as 44-year-old Antwuan Bowens, 44, of Trenton.

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating a homicide that occurred in Trenton early Monday morning. Trenton police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation for a shooting in the first block of Oakland Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the kitchen of his residence with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Tayvion Jones, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Police were able to quickly identify a suspect in the shooting, and he was stopped and taken into custody nearby. His name is not being released at this time as charges have not been filed yet. I will provide more information as it becomes available.
A second shooting homicide is also under investigation this morning. Police responded to a shooting in progress in the area of Daymond Street just before 9 a.m. (This is the same area as Saturday night’s homicide.) Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The victim’s name is being withheld pending confirmation and family notification.
