HAMILTON TOWNSHIP (MERCER)– Officers from the Hamilton Township Police Department along with firefighters from Hamilton Township Fire Division rescued a man who was on the edge of a bridge, Monday night. MidJersey.news is recognizing them as hero’s.
These hero’s responded to South Broad Street at the Route 130 overpass just before 11:30 pm Monday. According to radio reports, the initial caller stated the man was trying to jump from the overpass. An additional call then stated the man was dangling from the bridge.
Hamilton Police officers arrived on the scene made contact with the man, quickly grabbing onto him while he was reportedly dangling from the bridge, securing him until firefighters could pull him to safety. Firefighters arrived on scene and immediately established a plan to make a successful rescue.
A ladder truck was sent onto Route 130 to position their ladder under the bridge and bring the man to safety. Plans quickly changed and the man was pulled to safety from the top of the bridge.
The man was transported to the crisis center by Robert Wood Johnson EMS.
All emergency officials involved took a swift approach to the situation, while remaining calm and professional. Great work to all personnel involved.
