TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Mercer County Procutor’s Office confirms that the Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating another shooting death in Trenton early this morning bringing the body county to 20 dead in homicides this year. There have been 19 shootings and 1 stabbing death in the City of Trenton this year.

This latest shooting comes only about 3 hours after a meeting at City Hall where Police Director Sheilah A. Coley met with Latino community leaders on reorganizing the Trenton Police Department.

There are 20 homicide deaths in the City of Trenton in 2020. There are many other crimes that are not fatal where we get don’t news reports and press releases for such as non-death shootings, non-death stabbings, beatings and other violent crime. It makes you wonder how these “changes” are working out.

Official press release from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office:

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating a shooting that occurred in Trenton shortly after midnight, resulting in the death of a Trenton man.

At approximately 12:19 a.m. on July 15, 2020, Trenton Police Department received a Shot Spotter activation reporting several gun shots from the rear of 828 Edgewood Ave/Niagara Alley. Patrol Officers responded to the area and located 23-year-old Jahson Phillips on Niagara Alley, suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso. Phillips was later pronounced deceased by Capital Health Regional Medical Center personnel.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department continue to investigate this shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call (609) 989-6406. Information can also be emailed to [email protected]

Police Director Coley to Meet With Latino Community Leaders on Tuesday

Trenton, N.J. — Police Director Sheilah A. Coley will hold a symposium with Latino community leaders on Tuesday, July 14 at City Hall, 319 E. State Street, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Organized in partnership with the Guatemalan Civic Association, the two-hour discussion will be moderated and translated by Pastor Karen Hernandez-Granzen of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
