June 6, 2021 –Updated with official press release from Robbinsville PD

On June 6, 2021 at approximately 17:02 hours, Robbinsville Township Police Communications received a 911 call advising of a place crash in the area of Gordon and Sharon Road. Upon patrol unit’s arrival to the area, the pilot of the aircraft was observed walking around the area and a plane was located in the middle of Sharon Road near the intersection of Gordon Road. The pilot of the plane was identified as a 47 year old male from East Windsor, New Jersey. The pilot was transported via ambulance for minor back pain. The aircraft was identified as a 1966 Piper aircraft. Preliminary investigation has determined that the pilot took off from the Robbinsville Airport shortly before the crash and that the pilot experienced some sort of mechanical failure while in flight, causing him to perform an emergency landing .This investigation is still on going and notification was made to the Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation.

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (MERCER)–Preliminary information indicates a pilot taking of from Trenton-Robbinsville Airport N87 lost power and tried to make a forced emergency landing, crashing into a tree then a utility pole with live wires and a transformer. The plane then turned and landed on Sharon Road near Gordon (Page’s Corner) at 5:02 p.m.

The pilot did not appear to be injured and was up and walking around, turned off the batteries before walking to the ambulance for evaluation. Police reported that the man was transported to the hospital with minor back pain.

Robbinsville Township Police Department, Robbinsville Township Fire Department, Hamilton Township Fire Department and RWJ EMS responded to the scene.

Investigators were en route from the FAA, NJ DOT Division of Aeronautics to the scene.

Witnesses in the area of the old Miry Run Golf Course now Robbinsville Open Space posted on Facebook hearing the planes engines sputter.

Jersey Central Power and Light cut power to the lines and firefighters extinguished the burring transformer, utility pole and phone and cable wires.

Sharon and Gordon Roads will be closed for some time for the investigation and the utility pole replacement. Power in the immediate area will be out for an extended period while wires and utility poles are replaced.

Update the plane has been placed on a tow truck and transported to Trenton-Robbinsville Airport N87 on Sharon Road.

JACKSON, PLUMSTED (OCEAN)-MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP AND UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ (MONMOUTH)–Jackson Township Police Department has issued a statement on the traffic backup on Route 537 in Jackson Township, entering and exiting Six Flags Great Adventure.

Currently Google Maps Traffic has the backup on Rt. 537 from Six Flags entrance to I-195 (1 Mile)

In the opposite direction on Rt. 537 backup starts in Plumsted Township, near Loveman Road to the main entrance of Great Adventure. (2.75 Miles)

In Upper Freehold Township traffic is backed up on Millers Mill Road all the way to Red Valley Road near the curve according to Google Maps. (1 mile on Millers Mill and an additional 1 Mile on Rt. 537 for a total of at least 2 miles in backup)

Jackson Township Police:

We are WELL aware of the heavy traffic in Rt. 537/Monmouth Road leading to Six Flags Great Adventure. It’s that time of that year. Security and the authorities working there have all been advised. Please be patient and refrain from calling us to further advise us of the traffic situations unless you have a police emergency and need our assistance. Dispatch is being overloaded with calls for the traffic situation. Everyone is doing the best they can to accommodate everyone and get everyone in and out safely. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–The New Jersey State Police have identified the driver of the Hyundai in the fatal crash reported yesterday morning as Nathanal King, 26, from Trenton, NJ., SFC Lawrence Peele of the NJ State Police, Public Information Unit told MidJersey.news

The accident occurred at 4:44 a.m. on Interstate 295. Preliminary information indicates that the crash occurred in the area of milepost 58 when a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling southbound in the right lane when it struck the rear of a disabled tractor trailer. The driver of the Hyundai sustained fatal injures in the crash and was pronounced deceased. The two right lanes of Interstate 295 were closed for approximately 4 and a half hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
