Mercer County Press Release 11/14/2019:

TRENTON — Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes announced that the bridge on Old Trenton Road (County Route 535) located between One Mile Road and Princeton-Hightstown Road in East Windsor Township was reopened to the motoring public early this evening on budget. Officially known as Mercer County Bridge No. 861.1, the structure carries Old Trenton Road over a tributary of the Millstone River.

The Mercer County Department of Transportation and Infrastructure began the bridge replacement project on Aug. 1, 2019. In an effort to expedite completion of the project, Mercer County employed Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) technology, which included use of pre-fabricated components. Standard construction likely would have resulted in a completion time of six to nine months. However, use of ABC enabled the project to be completed in 106 calendar days despite weather-related delays and unforeseen utility conflicts.

The previous structure consisted of a single-span concrete-encased steel stringer bridge.  The structure was considered functionally obsolete due to substandard roadway width.  The replacement structure is 19-foot-6-inch clear span by 51-foot-6-inch-wide single-cell culvert structure supported on two spread footings. The new cross-section at the bridge consists of two 12-foot travel lanes, two 6-foot shoulders and two 6-foot sidewalks.

Marbro Inc. of Long Branch was the successful low bidder at $1,637,117. The contract was awarded on June 13, 2019.

Robbinsville Township Press Release:

ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. – (November 14, 2019) – Township Council Thursday voted unanimously to ban all “transient accommodations” – defined by state law as “a room, group of rooms, or other living or sleeping space for lodging of occupants, including, but not limited to residences or buildings used as residences.”Ordinance 2019-48 means Robbinsville homeowners will not be able to list their properties for short-term rentals, such as through the popular Airbnb service. Council introduced the ordinance October 24 after a presentation by the Robbinsville Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) led by Vice Chair Elizabeth Meyers two weeks earlier.

The state law does not apply to listing by real estate agents or brokers. However, municipalities can impose fees and taxes on local rental properties, in addition to state sales and use tax, if they were to permit use and collect the taxes.
