“Thank a Police Officer Day” is a national observance honoring law enforcement on the third Saturday in September. If you happen to see a police officer in your travels today, thank them for their service.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–On September 19, 2020 at 2:27 am, Hamilton Police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cedar Lane and Woolsey St. The crash involved two vehicles a black 2016 BMW operated by Kevin A Barreto, a 22 year old Male from Trenton NJ and a red 2010 Honda Accord operated by Byron Encalada-Andrae a 24 year old Male from Beltsville MD. The BMW was traveling East bound on Cedar Ln. and struck the Honda which was making a turn from Cedar Ln. onto Woolsey St. Drivers and occupants were transported to Capital Health at Fuld for their injuries.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Keith McDonald, and Officer Paul Micharski. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at (609)581-4000.

BRICK, NJ (OCEAN)–On Friday, September 18, 2020 at 10:48 pm, Brick Township Police responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, James Sommers, 76, of Brick on Mantoloking Road between Fairfield Avenue and Piel Avenue.
Upon arrival they discovered that Pedestrian James Sommers had been struck by a 2020 Honda CRV driven by Donna Kutzner, 66, of Brick, as he attempted to cross the roadway. He was unconscious, unresponsive and was not breathing. Officers initiated life saving measures which were continued by Brick Police Emergency Medical Services and Paramedics from Hackensack Hospital. Sommers was transported to Brick Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Brick Township Police Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene along with the Ocean County Sheriffs Criminal Investigation Unit. Traffic was detoured for several hours while the scene was processed.
