SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–Large town parades may be canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but there are several scaled down events including wreath layings at grave sites and memorials. Since we will be celebrating Memorial Day a little different this year due to the COVID-19 we will take a look at some from the past.

May 29, 2000 the events in South Brunswick start at VFW Post 9111, a visit to local cemeteries in town, then to the American Legion and finally a stop at the Municipal Building to lay wreaths at the memorial there.

The late Alfred “Al” Kady from VFW Post 9111 and South Brunswick American Legion rediscovered Civil War Veteran Aaron Hush’s gravesite. During the Memorial Day services on May 29, 2000 the Hush grandchildren and great grandchildren were invited to the site.

“We have a moral obligation to take care of these burial grounds as they are hallowed ground” — Al Kady would read that as part of opening statements each Memorial Day
