TRENTON, NJ (Mercer) — More than a half-dozen people were displaced by a fire that damaged their home late Saturday night (Oct. 26, 2024). The blaze at 119 Walnut Avenue was reported about 11:25 p.m. Heavy smoke was pushing from the top floor of the 1.5-story dwelling when firefighters first arrived. Three hoselines were placed in service to attack the flames and it took crews from Engines 7, 6, 10, 3 and 1, Ladders 4 and 2, Rescue 1 and Special Services 1, under the command of Battalion Chief Dave Smolka, about 25 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist five adults and three children with clothing, food and temporary shelter. Trenton EMS had an ambulance crew standing by during the fire but there were no reported injuries. The cause of the blaze was under investigation by members of the city’s fire marshal’s unit.
