TRENTON (Mercer) – A prompt response by city firefighters prevented a small fire from growing into a larger blaze that could have imperiled several rowhomes early Thursday morning (Oct. 24, 2024).
Firefighters from Engines 3, 7 and 10, Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 were alerted to the blaze in the Chambersburg section of the city about 4:10 a.m. When first-due companies arrived, they found fire showing from the front porch of 742 Adeline Street, the middle home in a row of three.
Flames on the front porch were quickly knocked down but heavy smoke was found in the interior and additional fire was located in the basement. As a precaution, the incident commander, Battalion Chief Kevin Rice, called for the balance of the full first alarm: Engine 6, Ladder 4 and Special Services 1. As it turned out, the remaining fire was contained and easily extinguished and the additional help was not need.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated by members of the city’s fire marshal’s unit.
