BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–The Bordentown Township Police Department announces the arrest of four (4) males for traveling to the Township in a stolen vehicle for the purpose of committing auto burglaries.

This incident originated at 3:54 a.m. when a resident of Hattaras Ct. contacted police and reported that a group of males were burglarizing her vehicle. The resident then advised that these males left the area in a red SUV and officers received a second call reporting that this same group was now trying to burglarize a vehicle on Lexington Rd.

Officers located the SUV on Yorktown Rd. and attempted to stop such which led to all four (4) occupants abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Officers were able to apprehend one (1) of the subjects during the foot chase but the other three (3) evaded capture. A perimeter was then quickly established and community notification was made via our Nixle emergency notification system.

At 7:30 a.m. a resident contacted police after observing the three (3) remaining suspects on Holloway Lane and all three (3) were then located hiding in a homeowner’s shed on Matthew Court.

Further investigation found that the red SUV, a 2020 Mazda CX-5, had been stolen from New Brunswick earlier this morning. All four (4) subjects were then charged with burglary, conspiracy, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest by flight.

The subjects are identified as:

Ikeem Thomas, age – 18, Broadway Ave. Newark, NJ. Committed to the Burlington County Jail.

Tysean Brown, age – 21, Adams Lane New Brunswick NJ. Committed to the Burlington County Jail.

Tash Augustine, age – 21, Crosspointe Dr. East Brunswick NJ. Released on summons complaints.

Josiah Talbert, age – 18, Perry Dr. North Brunswick NJ. Released on summons complaints.

The following agencies provided invaluable assistance during this incident: New Jersey State Police, Bordentown City PD, Mansfield Township PD, Florence Township PD, Cherry Hill Police K9 Unit, Bordentown Township Fire District #2, Willingboro Fire Department and Cinnaminson Fire Department.

Any residents who have further information or home security video of this group can contact Det. Anthony Nagle at 609-298-4300, ext. 2142, or via email at [email protected].

Chief Brian Pesce of the BTPD commended the many officers who participated in this investigation as well as the numerous residents that provided assistance.

“The initial suspicious behavior of this group was quickly reported by several residents and then others took heed of our Nixle alert and provided us with vital information which led to their apprehension. Community policing is not just programs and events for our agency, it also involves being transparent with our residents and keeping them informed so they can better protect themselves. We encourage everyone to opt into our Nixle notification system so they can receive future alerts of this nature by texting their zip code to 888777.”

10 Alleged Trenton Gang Members Indicted On Charges Related To Guns Seized In 2020 Operation To Halt Gang Violence – MidJersey.News

August 11, 2021

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Acting Attorney General Andrew J. Bruck announced that 10 alleged Trenton gang members and associates were indicted today on weapons charges stemming from their arrest last year, when the New Jersey State Police led an operation to halt anticipated gang violence and seized six guns—including an illegal “ghost gun”—and outlawed large-capacity ammunition magazines.

The  Division of Criminal Justice Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau today obtained a state grand jury indictment charging 10 alleged members and associates of the Garfield/Cleveland/Logan or “GCL” gang and the associated “the Section” gang with second-degree weapons offenses, which carry a sentence of up to 10 years in state prison with mandatory periods of parole ineligibility.

The defendants were arrested late last year as the result of an investigation by the New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Central Unit (“CSCU”). Through the investigation, detectives developed information that members of the GCL/Section gang were attending a large house party on Tyrell Avenue in Trenton on the night of Nov. 24, 2020, and many of them were armed with handguns. Detectives learned that rival gangs knew of the party and that there was a high chance of a shooting.

Based on this intelligence, the New Jersey State Police obtained a search warrant which they executed after midnight, seizing weapons and drugs, and arresting the 10 defendants who are charged in today’s indictment. Members of the CSCU executed the search warrant with assistance from the State Police T.E.A.M.S., K-9, and Aviation Units, and members of the Trenton Police Department, Hamilton Township Police Division, and Ewing Township Police Department.

During execution of the search warrant, authorities seized:

  • Six semi-automatic handguns, including a 9mm polymer “ghost gun” and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a defaced serial number;
  • Four illegal large-capacity ammunition magazines;
  • Hollow-point bullets;
  • Nine bricks of heroin and fentanyl— or roughly 450 individually packaged doses;
  • Eight vials of suspected crack cocaine.

Ghost guns are not registered and do not have serial numbers, making them difficult to trace and making it harder for law enforcement to solve gun crimes.

“We’re working hard to stop the gun violence committed by rival gang members, who put residents and children at risk in our communities,” said Acting Attorney General Bruck. “Through their quick response, the New Jersey State Police likely stopped a shootout in a residential section of Trenton and saved lives. This indictment is an important step by the Division of Criminal Justice to prosecute these defendants for allegedly arming themselves with illegal guns.”

“This case is an excellent example of law enforcement cooperating to address the threat posed by armed gang members,” said Director Lyndsay V. Ruotolo of the Division of Criminal Justice. “We’ll continue to collaborate with the State Police and our other law enforcement partners in Trenton and throughout New Jersey to improve safety and quality of life for our residents.”

“How and where the illegal guns seized in this operation were going to be used thankfully remains an untold story, but what is certain is that it would have ended in tragedy,” said Colonel Patrick J. Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. “The prompt response by the detectives in our State Police Crime Suppression Central Unit and our law enforcement partners undoubtedly saved lives. We remain committed to working shoulder to shoulder with our law enforcement partners, community leaders, and city residents to build and maintain safer neighborhoods in Trenton.”

The state grand jury indictment is posted online at:

The indictment charges the following 10 men with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with five of the handguns seized at the residence where the party was held (each man is charged in connection with all five guns); third-degree possession of a firearm without a serial number (ghost gun); fourth-degree possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number; fourth-degree possession of illegal large-capacity magazines; and third-degree possession of cocaine:

  1. Samuel Vincent, 26, Trenton, N.J.
  2. Antwan Tootle, 22, Trenton, N.J.
  3. Jaheim Myles, 20, Trenton, N.J.
  4. Jerome Bennett, 20, Burlington City, N.J.
  5. Terron Bazemore, 21, Trenton, N.J.
  6. Stafford Knowles, 19, Hamilton (Mercer County), N.J.
  7. Quameir Billups-Taylor, 23, Trenton, N.J.
  8. Anthony Robbins Jr., 20, Trenton, N.J.
  9. Jahad Blackshear, 20, Trenton, N.J.
  10. Domtrell Wilkins, 21, Trenton, N.J.

Tootle, Bennett, Myles, Vincent, and Knowles are also charged with second-degree possession, receipt or transfer of a “community gun”—a gun allegedly shared by a criminal group—in connection with those five guns. Bazemore is charged separately with unlawful possession of a sixth handgun, a .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol he allegedly had on his person when arrested.

Vincent, Tootle, and Billups-Taylor are charged with second-degree possession of a weapon as a convicted felon, and because he has a prior conviction for second-degree aggravated assault, Vincent is also charged with first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Vincent also faces third-degree charges of possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

After their initial arrests, Vincent, Myles, Knowles, Robbins, and Bennett were ordered detained in jail pending trial. The other defendants were released subject to conditions.

Deputy Attorney General Karen Braciszewski presented the indictment to the state grand jury for the Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) Gangs & Organized Crime Bureau, under the supervision of Deputy Bureau Chief Cassandra Montalto, Bureau Chief Lauren Scarpa Yfantis, and DCJ Deputy Director Annmarie Taggart.

Acting Attorney General Bruck commended the members of the New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Central Unit for their investigation. He thanked the State Police T.E.A.M.S., K-9, and Aviation Units, as well as the Trenton Police Department, Hamilton Township Police Division, and Ewing Township Police Department for their assistance in execution of the search warrant.

First-degree charges carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $200,000. Second-degree charges carry a sentence of five to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $150,000.  The charge of possession of a weapon as a convicted felon carries a mandatory period of parole ineligibility of five years, and unlawful possession of a handgun carries a mandatory period of parole ineligibility equal to one-third to one-half of the sentence imposed or 3 ½ years, whichever is greater. Third-degree charges carry a sentence of three to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Fourth-degree charges carry a sentence of up to 18 months in prison and a fine of $10,000.

The charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This investigation is another step towards reducing gun violence in New Jersey, one of Acting Attorney General Bruck’s key priority areas. In addition to long-term enforcement actions, the Attorney General’s Office and local, state, and federal law enforcement partners are holding a series of gun buyback programs around the state, as well as performing targeted sweeps of fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants for violent offenses, as part of a comprehensive strategy to combat gun violence.

August 6, 2021

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order 252, instituting the previously announced requirement that all workers in certain state and private health care facilities and high-risk congregate settings be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September 7, 2021 or be subject to COVID-19 testing at minimum one to two times per week. This requirement aims to strengthen protection against the spread of COVID-19 to vulnerable populations throughout the state.

“With the spread of the Delta variant working its way across the country and New Jersey, our most vulnerable populations remain at risk of serious illness or death due to exposure to unvaccinated individuals,” said Governor Murphy. “Requiring workers in health care and high-risk congregate settings to receive COVID-19 vaccinations or rigorous testing will help prevent outbreaks and reduce transmission to vulnerable populations that may be at higher risk of severe disease. I am grateful to our union partners across both the public and private sectors, officials within impacted industries, and members of our Cabinet for their collaboration as we put this new requirement into effect.”

For purposes of this Order, health care and high-risk congregate settings include:

  • Acute, pediatric, inpatient rehabilitation, and psychiatric hospitals, including specialty hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers
  • Long-term care facilities, including the state Veterans Homes
  • Intermediate care facilities, including the state developmental centers
  • Residential detox, short term and long term residential substance abuse disorder treatment facilities
  • Clinic-based settings like ambulatory care, urgent care clinics, dialysis centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, family planning sites, and Opioid Treatment Programs
  • Community-based healthcare settings including Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly, and pediatric and adult medical day care programs
  • Licensed home health agencies and registered health care service firms operating within the State
  • State and county correctional facilities
  • Secure care facilities operated by the Juvenile Justice Commission
  • Licensed community residences for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Licensed community residences for adults with mental illness; and
  • Certified day programs for individuals with IDD and TBI

For purposes of this Order, workers are defined as:

  • Full and part-time employees
  • Contractors
  • Other individuals working in the covered setting, including individuals providing operational, custodial, or administrative support

Health care facilities and other settings covered by the requirement will have until September 7, 2021 for all workers to come into full compliance with the vaccine mandate. At that time, if workers in the facility/setting have not submitted proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the worker will be required to submit to a minimum once to twice weekly testing.  Regardless of whether the covered setting is providing workers with on-site access to testing or requiring workers to submit proof of a COVID-19 test, both antigen and molecular tests will be acceptable to fulfill the requirements of the Order.

Workers are considered “fully vaccinated” for COVID-19 two weeks or more after they have received the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine.  Individuals will only be considered fully vaccinated where they have received a COVID-19 vaccine that is currently authorized for emergency use by the FDA or the WHO, or that are approved for use by the same.  Workers for whom vaccination status is unknown or who have not provided sufficient proof of document, must be considered unvaccinated for purposes of this Order.

This Order will not impact a setting’s ability to impose more stringent vaccination or testing requirements on workers, including any requirement for more frequent testing, for testing of both vaccinated and unvaccinated staff, and for mandatory vaccinations without a testing alternative. August 6, 2021

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Pemberton Township man has been indicted on charges of fatally shooting his cousin during an argument earlier this year.

A grand jury indicted Antwian Warthen, 29, on charges of Murder (First Degree), Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree), and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree).

The indictment was returned August 3 and signed by Prosecutor Coffina. An arraignment will be held soon in Superior Court. Warthen, who lives in the Browns Mills section of the township, has been lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly since his arrest on February 20.

The investigation began on February 19 at approximately 9:15 p.m. when Pemberton Township police officers were dispatched to Warthen’s home for a report of a man severely bleeding, possibly due to a stab wound. Upon arrival, they were informed that Warthen had just transported his cousin, Horace Warthen, 39, of Burlington City, to Capital Health at Deborah – Emergency Services.

Police responding to the medical center were told that Horace Warthen had been pronounced dead by a physician after arriving at the facility a short time earlier. Antwian Warthen was at the hospital when police arrived but left on foot after they went inside to determine the status of Horace Warthen. Antwian Warthen was located by police walking in a nearby neighborhood approximately 30 minutes later and taken into custody for questioning.

The investigation revealed that Antwian Warthen shot Horace Warthen during an argument inside the residence, then drove him to the hospital to receive treatment.

The charges were presented to a grand jury by Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Hutchinson. The investigation was conducted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Pemberton Township Police Department. The lead investigators are BCPO Detective Jenn Marchese and PTPD Detective Stephen Price.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
