LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP (MERCER)– Hundreds participated in a fundraiser that was held at Captain Paul’s Firehouse Dogs today to raise money for Joey’s Little Angels playground being built in Hamilton’s Limewood Park.

Joey’s Little Angels is a non-profit organization organized in memory of 15-month-old Joey Angiolino. Joey was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease at just seven months old called Hurler’s Syndrome, and passed away in 2010. The organization was started by his parents, who are both teachers in Mercer County, to provide assistance to families who have children going through similar situations.

Joey’s Little Angels is currently working with Where Angels Play Foundation to build a playground at Limewood Park in the Golden Crest section of Hamilton Township, Mercer County. The playground will be called Joey’s Place. Joey’s Little Angels is raising money over the next year for the the playground to be built, and hope to have it up for kids to play in April of 2022.

The fundraiser was held at Captain Paul’s Firehouse Dogs from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, in efforts to help Joey’s Little Angels and Where Angels Play Foundation build the playground. When you visited Captain Paul’s and chowed down on their great food, a portion of the proceeds were donated towards the efforts to build Joey’s Place.

Background behind Where Angels Play Foundation and their playground builds:

Shortly after the Newtown, CT tragedy, the New Jersey State FMBA, like everywhere else, was already struggling to be productive and helpful to advocate for firefighters and their families, supporting countless communities devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The FMBA also struggled to find a way to appropriately honor these children and their families for the tragedy that they suffered. That’s when they came up with the idea to build twenty-six playgrounds in communities destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, each one honoring a teacher or student that was lost that day in Newtown, CT.

Twenty-six playgrounds have been constructed all along the coast of three states. They have been built by firefighters, police officers, teachers, support staff, and volunteers in an attempt to connect two tragedies that eerily share the same name in a way that people can never forget. Each playground reflects the personality of the teacher or child for whom it would be named. This project has the approval of all of the families of those lost in Connecticut. After The Sandy Ground Project was completed in just 18 months, the 26 families wanted to “pay it forward” and continue to build playgrounds to honor others in needy communities across the country as well as internationally. Thus, Where Angels Play Foundation was born.

Currently, Where Angels Play Foundation is working with Joey’s Little Angels to build a playground in memory of Joseph “Joey” Thomas Angiolino. In December of 2009, at 7 months of age, Joey was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Hurler’s Syndrome. At 15 months of age, after a tremendous battle, Joey became an angel. Joey’s Little Angels is founded by Joey’s family who are very active in their community to raise money for various children’s hospitals. In April of 2022, “Joey’s Place” will be built in Limewood Park to celebrate the life of Joey.

Captain Paul’s Firehouse dogs is located at 2230 Princeton Pike in Lawrence Township. According to their website, Captain Paul’s is a small family-owned and operated business in Mercer County. It was established in 2009 when the owner, Paul Tweedly, retired from the Trenton Fire Department as Captain after 26 years of service.

It is a business “Dedicated to the men and women associated with emergency services, the military and their families, and for all those who volunteer to help others.”

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–This afternoon, Governor Phil Murphy toured the new “Real Time Crime Center” that’s a partnership between Trenton Police Department and the New Jersey State Police.

There has been much talk over the past year from politicians claiming the center will help reduce Trenton’s crime and homicide problem with gun shot detection and hotspot surveillance.

In a June 5, 2020 City of Trenton Press Release   $4.5 million was used to establish a real-time crime, technology and intelligence center, a partnership between the Trenton Police Department and the New Jersey State Police to assist the Trenton PD in executing its public-safety strategy, including gunfire detection, video surveillance, and crime-intelligence gathering.

WEST WINDSOR TWP (MERCER)– There was a huge turnout for a parade held for Mercer County Fire Marshall James “Jimmy” Greschak, and his three-year-old granddaughter, Friday evening.

The drive-by parade began at about 7:00 pm in support of Greshack, who was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in January, combined with a birthday driveby for his granddaughter, Abigail’s, third birthday. Multiple pieces of apparatus and other emergency vehicles from every fire company in the county, and even some other counties, showed up to show their support.

Many know Greshack as the Mercer County Fire Marshall, or through the County Fire Chiefs Association, County Firemen’s Relief Association, and County Fire Officials. He is also a 50 year member of the West Windsor Fire Company. Others may know Greshack as a Eucharistic Minister at St. David’s, a Knight of Columbus, a Ski Club member, and from other activities.

Greshack’s family expressed their gratitude for the parade, saying, “Drive By Support My father Jim Greschak, was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in January. We have been touched by the amount of his friends that have reached out or tried to reach out to connect with dad and wish him well. I would like to thank Chief Kevin Applegate and the West Windsor Fire Co. for their support in this drive by and through this ordeal.”

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–The Trenton Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident at 6:27 pm. at North Clinton and Poplar Street. According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office police units discovered a stolen Audi with two occupants. The male driver was found to be shot and unresponsive. A female passenger was suffering from seizures. Both of them were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where the male victim was pronounced dead.

A witness told MidJersey.news that it appeared to be a neck wound and CPR was given at the scene.

Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office will be releasing more details as information becomes available.

SARATOGA, NY — On April 28, 2021 the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office became aware of a suspicious vehicle complaint being handled by the U.S. Park Rangers at the Saratoga Battlefield in the Town of Stillwater. The vehicle reportedly struck barriers at the park entrance and subsequently fled from the Rangers. The vehicle continued north on NY State Route 32 after which the Rangers lost sight of it.

While checking the area for the vehicle, the Stillwater Police Department located it traveling southbound on NY State Route 4. The vehicle continued to flee from police and proceeded south though the Village of Stillwater before reaching the City of Mechanicville where it passed though and continued westbound on NY State Route 67.

The vehicle ultimately reached U.S. Route 9 where it turned south and struck signs in the roundabout at Routes 9 and 67. It proceeded south on Route 9 when it crossed over to the northbound lane and struck a guardrail on the east side of the roadway near Goldfoot Road in the Town of Malta and came to a stop. The operator was found deceased inside the vehicle.

The operator of the vehicle that fled from police was identified as Robert A. Sanders (age 48) of Lakewood, NJ Mr. Sanders was operating a silver 2008 Toyota Tundra with NJ registration H50JUZ. The vehicle had a large brown tool box in the bed.

The Sherriff’s Office is requesting anyone who might have encountered Mr. Sanders recently to contact the Sherriff’s Office at (518) 885-6761

Other police agencies involve were: U.S. Park Rangers, NY State Police, Mechanicville Police Department, Stillwater Police Department, and the New York Attorney General’s Office. The NY State DOT, Saratoga County OES, Round Lake Fire and Malta EMS also responded to the scene.

EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–At 1619 hours, 10-year-old Devin Broach was reported missing by his family. Devin was last seen walking from his residence on Albemarle Avenue. Devin is described as a black male, 5′ approximately 100 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue and yellow shirt, and red/white/black air max sneakers. Anyone with any information is asked to immediately contact the Ewing Police Department at 609-882-1313.
