WEST WINDSOR NJ (MERCER)—Police said a 2014 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling north on US Route 1 and approaching a red traffic signal at the Fisher Place Intersection, when a 2013 Toyota Tacoma was traveling in the jug handle of US Route 1 South for Fisher Place and had a green traffic signal to cross US Route 1 about 9:39 pm last night.

As the Toyota crossed US Route 1, the Freightliner continued into the intersection where it struck the Toyota. The Freightliner then left the roadway took down a Traffic Signal and struck a utility pole causing live wires to fall. The Freightliner re-entered the roadway and came to a final uncontrolled rest after striking the center concrete barrier of US Route 1 according to police.  

West Windsor Township Police, West Windsor Emergency Services, West Windsor Volunteer Fire Company # 1 Station 43, and Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Company Station 44, along with Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad, and Mercer County Paramedics were all sent to the scene.

The driver was found of the Freightliner was found unconscious and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center Trauma Unit in Trenton. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage and the roadway was closed for 4 hours for the cleanup by NJDOT, power lines to be repaired by PSE&G. Mercer County Serious Collision Response Team along with the West Windsor Police Traffic Bureau are investigating.

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is aware that people across the country have received unsolicited packages of seed from China in recent days. APHIS is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection and State departments of agriculture to prevent the unlawful entry of prohibited seeds and protect U.S. agriculture from invasive pests and noxious weeds.

Anyone in New Jersey who receives an unsolicited package of seeds from China should immediately contact the New Jersey Department of Agriculture at 609-292-3976 or [email protected]. Also, you can contact the APHIS State plant health director. Please hold onto the seeds and packaging, including the mailing label, until someone from your State department of agriculture or APHIS contacts you with further instructions. Do not plant seeds from unknown origins.

Reports from several state’s department of agriculture reporting unsolicited seeds being mailed to random residence around the country. Moments after posting the story today, MidJersey.News received a post via Facebook of a pack of seeds sent to Hopewell Township-Washington Crossing, NJ area. Be on the lookout, Do Not Plant and report to USDA APHIS link posted below.

So far reports of seeds being sent to NJ, NY, Virginia, Utah, Louisiana, Washington State and the United Kingdom.

Press release from Virginia:

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) has been notified that several Virginia residents have received unsolicited packages containing seeds that appear to have originated from China. The types of seeds in the packages are unknown at this time and may be invasive plant species. The packages were sent by mail and may have Chinese writing on them.

Please do not plant these seeds. VDACS encourages anyone who has received unsolicited seeds in the mail that appears to have Chinese origin to contact the Office of Plant Industry Services (OPIS) at 804.786.3515 or through the [email protected] email.

Invasive species wreak havoc on the environment, displace or destroy native plants and insects and severely damage crops. Taking steps to prevent their introduction is the most effective method of reducing both the risk of invasive species infestations and the cost to control and mitigate those infestations.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ (MERCER)–New Jersey State Police confirmed that 10 horses died in a horse transport truck accident with fire early this morning on the New Jersey Turnpike. The truck was a very large tractor trailer style horse transport.

One Facebook witness said they were passing the area at the time and saw flames 20 feet in the air coming from the wreckage.

The transport vehicle traveling north lost control and struck a concrete divider in the area of the bridge support for an emergency U-Turn on the highway then caught fire.

NJSP did not confirm that two persons were injured including one with inhalation burns to the lungs. The injured people were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick trauma center.

The accident and fire occurred around 3:00 am this morning on the New Jersey Turnpike “truck lanes” outer roadway near mile marker 68.6 north bound which is between Wycoff Mills Road and Brick Yard Road, approximately 1 mile north of Exit 8 Hightstown

Multiple fire departments and ambulance crews responded to the scene including units from Hightstown, East Windsor 1 & 2, Cranbury, Plainsboro and Monroe. Hightstown First Aid Squad transported 2 to RWJ, New Brunswick.

It was reported the horse transport was coming from Florida.

No further information is available at this time. NJSP would not give name of carrier or farm that horses belonged to.

One unconfirmed source stated that the horse trailer may have been en route from Ocala, Florida to Sarasota, NY carrying race horses for a race today and training at Saratoga Springs.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–The Hamilton Township Fire Department responded to a well involved car fire on I-195 West Bound just prior to Route 130 around 8 pm. The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

December 20, 2020

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (MERCER)–Sources told MidJersey.News that an Amazon Warehouse, PNE5 that is a Sort Center at 18 Applegate Drive was closed for an increase of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases. Passing by the warehouse this evening it appears that security has been posted at both entrances and the warehouse has a minimal crew on location compared to normal. The warehouse will be closed out an abundance of cation until December 26 sources said.

Sort Centers take individual packages from fulfillment centers and route them to individual post offices to speed up the process of delivery. Sort Centers reportedly make Sunday delivery possible by USPS and speed shipments during the rest of the week.

MidJersey.News has reached out to Amazon’s Global Corporate Affairs Office and awaiting information and comment. Check back for further information once we receive official information the story will be updated.

PLAINSBORO, NJ (MIDDLESEX)–Firefighters, EMS, and police with over 50 pieces of apparatus took part in a hospital worker appreciation event tonight at UPenn Princeton Medical Center. Hosted by Plainsboro Fire Department and Police, many agencies came through to show their support for hospital workers.

Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and even the Grinch showed up to show their support riding in the fire department’s ladder towers and were able to see hospital employees though the windows of the hospital.

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (MERCER)–Around 8:18 pm the Robbinsville Township Fire Department, Hightstown First Aid and Mercer County Paramedics responded to the NJ Turnpike for a pedestrian struck. Radio reports indicate that the man suffered a broken leg after by being hit by a tractor trailer and was found by a passerby at mile marker 63.5 north bound outer lanes of the highway. The man was placed in the back of the good Samaritan’s vehicle until help could arrive. It is unknown and unclear why the man was found on the side of the highway in blizzard like conditions and what exactly he was wearing.

The man was transported to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and a “trauma alert” was called in route to the hospital.

From observations on scene no truck was seen stopped near the scene. NJ State Police was on scene investigating the incident. Once more information is available the story will be updated, corrections and additions made if needed.

TRENTON, NJ (MERCER)–Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced today that an investigation conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force has resulted in charges being filed against a man and a woman in the December 8 homicide of Joel Alexander.

Nasir White, 24, of Ewing, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of first-degree robbery, weapons offenses, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.  Monet Maiden, 22, of Trenton, is charged with hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.  Complaints were signed on Tuesday charging both White and Maiden, who were already in custody on unrelated charges out of Lawrence Township.  Motions to detain both pending trial have been filed by the prosecutor’s office.   

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on December 8, 2020, Trenton police received a 911 call for a report of a male who was dumped out of a vehicle and shot on Chase Street.  Responding officers located an unresponsive male, later identified as 43-year-old Alexander, in the street with a gunshot wound to the head.  He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

During the course of the investigation, task force detectives collected and reviewed video surveillance footage from the surrounding area, and located and interviewed several witnesses.  They were able to identify a gold Honda Accord with tinted windows, distinct aftermarket rims, and an unknown New Jersey registration as the vehicle involved in the incident. 

The investigation revealed that a gold Honda Accord drove onto Chase Street from Brunswick Avenue and stopped in the middle of the street.  An unknown black male, exited the front driver seat of the vehicle, walked to the rear driver side seat and shot the victim Joel Alexander.  The unknown black male was later identified as Nasir White and Monet Maiden was identified in the gold Honda Accord at the time of the murder.  Nasir White then dragged the victim out of the car, place him in the middle of the street, and then reentered the gold Honda Accord and fled the area with Maiden.  A bulletin with a photograph of the vehicle captured from surveillance video was sent out to surrounding municipalities on December 10.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on December 13, Lawrence police located a matte black Honda Accord at the Wawa on Brunswick Pike in an unrelated criminal investigation.  During that investigation Nasir White, Monet Maiden and Anesha Joynes were arrested for possession of two handguns and drug offenses.  Further investigation revealed that the Honda Accord appeared to be spray painted black and ultimately determined to be the gold Honda Accord used in the murder of Joel Alexander.  The investigation revealed the Honda Accord as belonging to Monet Maiden and, in the days following the murder, White and Maiden purchased black spray paint to repaint the gold Honda Accord black.   White also attempted to clean the interior of the Honda Accord.  A search warrant was obtained and a search of the Honda Accord revealed an obvious bloodstain on the backseat of the Honda Accord along with upholstery cleaner.   

Despite having been charged, every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Monet Maiden, 22, of Trenton, is charged with hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.

Nasir White, 24, of Ewing, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of first-degree robbery, weapons offenses, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence.

ALLENTOWN, NJ (MONMOUTH)–Yesterday Robbinsville Township Fire Department’s A-platoon joined other agencies from across the state in Allentown NJ and attended a tactical EMS class put on by Emergency Education & Development, LLC of Edgewater Park NJ; titled Tactical Emergency Casualty Care.

This class incorporates combat style military care and civilian EMS operations to prepare responders to respond to Active Shooter/Hostile Incidents as part of a Rescue Task Force concept. The instructors were Firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics and Police Officers with over 100 years of emergency service experience.

Students were faced with real life scenarios with “causalities” mocked up looking like real life injuries and face real life skill stations while wearing ballistic person protective gear such as mock tactical vests with ballistic helmets.
