Park Will Implement Advance Reservations and New Safety Procedures

May 20, 2020

JACKSON, NJ (0CEAN)–Six Flags Great Adventure announced today that its Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will open May 30 and operate daily from 9 am to 4 pm, weather permitting. Advance tickets and reservations are required, and the experience will incorporate new safety procedures for both guests and team members. Active Members, Season Pass holders and employees can catch a special preview May 29.

Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will take guests on a self-guided journey through 1,200 exotic animals from six continents. From the safety and privacy of their own vehicles, guests will slowly wind through 11 simulated natural habitats seeing animals such as giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, tigers, bears and baboons. While most animals roam freely in the safari, predators are safely kept behind fences. All animals are clearly visible from car windows. Guests can learn all about the animals and their habitats on the park’s website at www.sixflags.com/safari

The safety of guests, team members and animals is Six Flags’ top priority. The new safari journey will offer a contact-free experience. All safari tickets must be purchased online and in advance. Ticket sales will not be available at the gate. To prevent overcrowding and provide proper social distancing, the safari will require all guests to make advance reservations using Six Flags’ new online reservation system. Active Members, Season Pass Holders, and single-day ticket holders can make reservations beginning May 27 at 10 am EST at www.sixflags.com/reserve. Guests without advance reservations will not be allowed to enter.

A new list of safety requirements is available on the park’s website at www.sixflags.com/greatadventure and include keeping all windows, doors, and convertible tops closed; not feeding or touching the animals; no smoking, littering, or stopping; cars, SUVs and consumer pickup trucks with empty beds only – no buses, campers, RVs, commercial vehicles or trucks larger than a consumer pickup truck; maximum speed of 5 mph and maintaining safe distance between other cars and animals. All vehicles will be inspected prior to entering the safari, rules will be enforced throughout the journey by park staff, and anyone who violates the rules will be ejected from the park without a refund and possibly prosecuted.

As a safety precaution, all Six Flags employees will be temperature and health screened each day, and wear masks and gloves where appropriate. Per current state regulations, no additional services will be available. Six Flags encourages guests to plan accordingly for restroom breaks, gasoline, and food. Only portable toilets will be available upon entrance and exit.

Six Flags Great Adventure’s safari operated as a self-drive-through experience from 1974 through 2012 and entertained more than 10 million guests. Since 2013, Great Adventure has offered guided truck tours of the safari. Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure will operate until the theme park is able to reopen. Per state, local, and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19, the theme park and waterpark will remain closed until further notice.

June 16, 2020

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (MERCER)–This evening, Hamilton Township Mayor Jeff Martin will present his inaugural budget for 2020 to the Township Council.

“The 2020 Budget was going to be a difficult budget for Hamilton Township starting on the very first day of the year,” said Mayor Jeff Martin.  “As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Township was put in an even more difficult budgetary position.  This administration has made many difficult decisions over the past few months that impact our employees, our residents and our businesses, but which we believe puts Hamilton on a stronger financial foundation.”

As of January 1, 2020, Hamilton found itself in a budget hole totaling roughly $4 million, the largest portion of which was from a decrease in available surplus funds.  At the end of 2019, Hamilton only had approximately $6.1 million in surplus funds available despite last year’s CFO estimating Hamilton would be able to use $6.6 million in surplus to balance 2020’s budget.  This amount is in stark contrast to the $9.2 million available in surplus the prior year.   Additionally, the Township saw numerous cost increases, almost entirely out of its control, when compared to the 2019 adopted budget. These increases total $2.125 million in operating expenses.

In March, Hamilton, like every other municipality in the country, was presented with the COVID-19 pandemic.  While the federal government provided bailouts to the cruise industry, airline industry and many others to make up for lost revenues, it has not provided similar relief to local governments.  Hamilton anticipates revenue losses ranging from $300,000 loss in Municipal Court fees, $450,000 in bank interest income, $25,000 loss on golf center revenue, and others totaling $1.85 million as a result of the pandemic.

To overcome the nearly $8 million budget gap, the Administration reviewed the budget line-by-line to see where any savings could be realized.  As a result, the Township had to initiate furlough almost all part-time employees, cut overtime, and cut many of our residents’ favorite activities such as Azalea Fest due to both health and budget concerns.  These cuts totaled over $650,000.   Additionally, almost all employees on expired contracts have agreed to a one-year contract extension which includes a 0% pay raise this year and other one-time savings.  The Township is working to secure the commitment to these savings from the other unions as well.  These savings, once agreed to by all unions, will result in a savings of approximately $1.25 million.

“Our township employees also gave back so that not all of the burden fell on our residents and businesses,” stated Martin. “I want to publicly thank them not only for their commitment in getting the job done each and every day but also for their partnership in being part of the solution to overcoming our budgetary problems. “

While these savings are substantial, and should only cause a minimal disruption to services in 2020, they are not enough to overcome the significant budget hole Hamilton faces.  Therefore, the budget contains a tax increase of 4.4 cents.  For an average Hamilton home valued at $225,000, this increase will result in a local tax increase of $8.33 per month.

“We do not take this increase lightly, especially with the state of today’s economic picture,” said Martin.  “However, this year’s budget is nearly $500,000 less than 2019’s adopted budget and is $2.3 million less than what was forecasted for the 2020 budget.  This means we made cuts everywhere we could without putting our residents’ health and safety at risk.“

The Township Council meeting will be held this evening at 6:30 pm via teleconference. Residents can find instructions on how to join the call on the Township website, www.HamiltonNJ.com.

NORTH HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (BURLINGTON)–On May 7, 2020 the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs canceled flag placement at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (See COVID-19 notice from their web page below)

Usually on the Friday afternoon-evening before Memorial Day weekend hundreds of Boy Scouts, veterans and volunteers place flags on the cemetery to honor veterans but was canceled by Governor Murphy’s COVID-19 executive orders. This year’s date was May 22, 2020 for the flag placement.

Permission was granted for the flag placement so The American Legion, VFW-Veterans Of Foreign Wars, and volunteers from other organizations including some Scouts got together and placed 47,000+ flags for Memorial Day that is a time honored tradition today.

“Believing that the tradition of honoring our fallen and deceased veterans is one of our most important missions and could be safely conducted, she had several communications with the leadership of the State Department of Military & Veterans Affairs leading the VFW to be granted approval to place the flags on the graves. Our Commander (State Commander Barbara Kim-Hagemann) has also reached out to our brothers and sisters in The American Legion, DAV & the Marine Corps League and invited them to participate as a joint project. We all have the same mission and desire to honor our fallen.” -from VFW flyer about the placement.

Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery. 47,000 Veteran graves now have Flags in honor of Memorial Day. Thanks to past Post 6063 Commander, Department Commander Barbara Kim Hagemann for spearheading this mission and getting over 100 volunteers including VFW, American Legion and other Veterans organizations to assist with honoring all our veterans and their families. Truly appreciate each and everyone who was able to participate.

American Bus Association, Motorcoaches Rolling for Awareness

WASHINGTON, DC AND PRINCETON, NJ (MERCER)—A-1 Limousine and sister company Triangle Tours joined hundreds of motorcoach companies from around the country for a rolling rally around the U.S. Capitol and National Mall in Washington, D.C. today.

The “Motorcoaches Rolling for Awareness” is a joint event between the American Bus Association and United Motorcoach Association. This is a positive event showcasing how big buses and small businesses move America. Buses will be decorated with informative signs about the motorcoach industry including: the groups they serve, the economic impact they make and the people they employ.

Motorcoach operators are seeking to remind Members of Congress and the Trump Administration that the industry – which has laid off or furloughed more than 90 percent of its workforce nationally in the wake of COVID-19 – needs federal assistance. The motorcoach industry has requested $15 billion in federal grants and loan guarantees and modifications to Economic Injury Disaster Loan and Paycheck Protection Program.

“Like many local small businesses, my operations have been absolutely devastated by the coronavirus. My buses sit idling while my employees remain at home. We all want to be back on the road, bringing people from point A to point B while serving our communities when it is safe again. Without help from the federal government, I fear our buses may never return to the road and our passengers will be stranded without access to the nation’s transportation system,” said Jeffrey Starr president of A-1 Limousine. “I look forward to joining hundreds of my fellow motorcoach operators in Washington to showcase the strength in numbers of our industry and the positive benefits we provide to every community in America.”
